Colour Scheme

Potential Ideas

I looked through a range of different magazine colours from a few different covers of magazines that i like the look of. From the covers i looked at i chose five different colour schemes from five different covers that i thought worked well. From these five i chose the one that i liked the best too use on my magazine cover.

1.

Black/White/Red

I chose this set of colours as a potential idea because i like the black and white look on the front of a magazine cover as it think it looks smart and professional and i like the red title as it is eye catching.

2.

Dark Blue/White/Light Blue

I chose this set of colours as a potential idea because it looks calmer than the rest. The other covers have a lot of bright colours on them but this on does not need to as the artist and magazine is that well known they don't have to try and catch the buyers eye as there audience looks for there magazine. The colour are light and it gives me a laid back impression.

3.

Red/White/Black

I chose this set of colours as a potential idea because it is very eye catching and catches the buyer surprise as the whole of the cover is bright red. I think the choice of colour intrigues the read as it did to me as i felt it mirrors the artists personalty.

4.

Grey/White/Black

I chose this set of colours as a potential idea because i like the use of the dark colours used for the background and the clothing worn by the artist and then all the information about what is inside the magazine stands out as the wording is the only bright colour on the cover.

5.

Blue/White/Red

I chose this set of colours as a potential idea because although i do not like the colours together when looking at them on the colour palette i think Q magazine have made the background look very different to all the other covers i have looked at and this makes it stands out from the rest and grab attention.

FONT

For my font i wanted to find a font that catches the buyers eye for a split second but once the they have noticed the magazine they automatically look at the rest of the content. i don't want them to be fixed on magazine title but i want them to notice it when walking past it, so i looked at successful music magazines like Q and NME who have bold fonts that take up the whole of the top left corner so it is very noticeable when browsing but are boring too look at after first glance which makes the buyer look at the rest of the cover. So from this i looked on dafont for bold, blocked fonts.

Magazine title

Encore
It took me a long time too think of the title for my magazine, checked the internet for musical terms too use but found no inspiration. Then i decided to carry out some market research by looking through high end music magazines such as Kerrang, Q, NME etc too see if they follow any certain trends. I then had a collection of words which i asked my friends which they thought sounded appropriate too call my magazine. The majority said 'encore' which means "a demand by an audience for an additional performance, usually expressed by applause" sounded best. I chose to go with the name chosen by my friends as i also thought it was the most suitable name for my magazine as the word 'encore' is a well known music term known by most people which is good as the buyer will know straight away it is a music magazine.
