ARCTIC MONKEY Q COVER

This was a cover for Q magazine in june 2011 featuring Arctic Monkeys. I like this cover because it's simple but still noticeable at the same time. As soon as a fan of the band walk by and see's lead singer Alex Turner's picture taking up the magazine cover or see the band name in bold writing they instantly want too read more. The sub heading 'They're back. with a bang.' leaves the reader wanting to know more about the article aswell as the sub heading being in a red font which signals an importance. The magazine has no straplines because it is a well established magazine and does not need to try and attract the read with straplines.

Questionaire Results

NAME: -
GENDER: The gender i questioned were all males, this was because i am aiming my magazine at a male audience so i thought it would make more sense too give my questionaires out just too a male audience.
AGE: They were all around the same age, i did this because i think 16-17 is around the age when you start too listen too more music and go to gig and festivals so i stuck too that sort of age range. I let my brother fill out a questionaire because although he is only fifteen i know he really enjoys music and knows alot about it so i thought it would make sense to ask him even though he was not in the age bracket for my magazine i know that some younger lads to buy music magazines on a weekly basis.
FAVOURITE GENRE: Indie and Alternative were the two picked by everyone that filled out a questionaire, so this helped me alot as they were all in the age i was aiming to sell my magazine too and it gave me confidence in the choice of genre i had chose to do for my magazine.

FAVOURITE ARTIST OR BAND: Oasis, Killers, Coldplay, The Courteeners, The Vaccines, Biffy Clyro, Pigeon Detectives, Two Door Cinema Club, White Lies, Friendly Fires, The Maccabees, Metronomy

DO YOU BUY A MUSIC MAGAZINE WEEKLY? Half of the audience i questioned said 'yes' they did buy a music magazine weekly and the other half said that they 'occasionally' buy a music magazine. From the results i got all four buy music magazines, this was good as a questioning them about what they look for in a music magazine which is good because it would be pointless asking all these questions if they dont ever buy them.
IF SO WHICH ONE? NME and Q magazines were the two that all people i questioned said they buy. This makes sense as they are two most well known Indie/Alternative magazines. These are magazines i will be basing my magazine on as they are on the same gender and aimed at the same age range as mine will be.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A MAGAZINE? Articles on bands that are liked by the reader seems to be the main selling point of the magazine. Also articles on upcoming gigs and festivals seemed to be an answer that came up a few times.
WOULD YOU PREFER WEEKLY OR MONTHLY? It was a mixture of weekly and monthly that came up so i dont think it really makes a difference which it is.
HOW MUCH DO YOU EXPECT TO SPEND? The amount i got was mostly between £1.49 and £1.99 and then there was an answer of £3 but that would only be if it was a monthly magazine or it would be too pricey.
COLOURED OR BLACK AND WHITE FRONT COVER? The impression i got was that i didnt really matter if it was coloured or not as this was not really took notice of when buying the magazine.
